Common abbreviations used in the gym

•Learning the names of exercises and what they are is difficult enough, not to mention a laundry list of abbreviations that are commonly used around the gym. We get it, seeing something like “HK SA OH DB PRESS” can seem a bit overwhelming. Which is why we’ve rounded up a “cheat sheet” for you with a list of the most common abbreviations that are used in the gym and in programming. These will help give you a leg up when you come in to learn new movements.
SA = single arm
SL= single leg
OH= overhead
DB= dumbbell
BB= barbell
KB= kettle bell
Prone= lay on belly
Supine= lay on back
HK= half kneeling
TK = tall kneeling
MB= med ball
SB= stability Ball
ALAP = as long as possible
AMRAP= as many reps as possible
LX= lacrosse ball
FFE= front foot elevated
RFE = rear foot elevated
ROM = range of motion
This list isn’t exhaustive, but it covers a majority of the commonly used abbreviations around the gym.
